Step Outside and Just Go Running

It’s been awhile since I ran my last marathon (full in Phoenix circa early 2010; half in Seattle circa early 2010). I kind of lost interest in running. Sure, I had moments of running jubilee every now and again, but for the most part, I’ve just been busy with other stuff. Family, business, training to climb Mt. Rainier, etc. I was way out of shape to clime that mountain and had I been running regularly I think I would have had a better shot. Regardless, we were turned around by avalanche problems so we’ll never know, but deep down I know.

So with my busy life I’ve definitely gained a few inches, am a bit more out of energy and lack any motivation to work out. It’s funny, I remember the days a few years ago when I literally could not wait to wake up and going running. Fast forward a few years and now I look at it as a chore. So this morning, instead of “going running,” I went for a walk with Daisy (my dog) and by the end of it we were running, ears flapping in the wind (mine not her’s, I mean her’s not mine) and for the first time in a long time I actually had a smile on my fast whilst running. Kind of cool.

It helps that a day ago my buddy and I made a “get in shape” challenge so I had a little birdie in my ear while running say to me “see… you only need to step outside and just go!”
